12 months ago we were eagerly waiting to move into our new Studio at Talla na Mara, and I had planned to tell you all about it in this blog entry.

Instead, I find myself impelled to focus on another matter – ghost gear and plastic pollution in general…..

Harris has such a uniquely beautiful and wonderfully diverse landscape that we are privileged to share throughout the year, but recent winter storms have brought more plastic onto our beautiful beaches than usual. The local community and volunteer services are rallying together and organising beach cleans. We are collecting what we can each time we walk on the beaches also.

But it has really made me consider what other steps, we as a business can take to address the problem and become as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible. We already recycle as much packaging as possible, and are in discussion with organisations as to how we can improve even further.

In 2012 the European Commission calculated that the continent’s small and medium businesses (SME’s) were responsible for no less than 64 per cent of European pollution. And with 4.9 million of these businesses in Britain alone – we CAN all make a difference.
